As part of this Pro Bono Week 2025, the Faculty of Advocates Free Legal Services Unit as part of the newly formed Scottish Pro Bono Roundtable is delighted to host this year’s event at the Mackenzie Building on Thursday 6 November titled Scottish Pro Bono Roundtable: Advancing Justice Together.
This in-person event will feature an innovative and interactive format, bringing together members of the newly established Scottish Pro Bono Roundtable alongside representatives from across Scotland. Together, they will explore key themes shaping the future of pro bono work. The Roundtable is currently compromised of representatives from various legal organisations, charities, and law firms not only in Scotland but nationally.
Roundtable Themes:
- Pro bono: Stories of impact – hear from the frontline about how pro bono lawyers transform lives and support charities to make a difference in our communities and abroad.
- Pro bono: win-win for professional & business development – develop skills, experience and a professional network, and an asset in recruitment and retention.
- Pro bono: Getting involved – advice and practical steps about how to start making a difference through pro bono.
Each table will be facilitated with a Table Lead from the Roundtable and Graphic Scribe, who will visually capture the discussions in real time—creating a compelling visual summary to be shared across Scotland to promote awareness and engagement in pro bono legal services.
The event will be chaired by Neil Mackenzie KC, Convenor of the Free Legal Services Unit and Keeper of the Library.
A networking reception will follow the discussions with a chance to have some refreshments and offering a chance to connect and reflect on the challenges facing legal services in Scotland with others across the legal and access to justice sectors who share a commitment to pro bono work.

Members of Faculty will also be awarded 1.5 hours of Advocacy CPD.
