The Launch Event for Pro Bono Week 2024; an opportunity to hear the power of client voice, bringing real life stories closer.
The Free Legal Services Unit and the Pro Bono Week Committee are delighted to invite you to join our joint Pro Bono Week Launch Event which for the first time is taking place in both London and Edinburgh simultaneously.
Edinburgh will remotely join for London's keynote speeches from the Attorney General, the Rt Hon Lord Hermer KC as well as Scotland's Advocate General for Scotland, Catherine Smith KC. A panel formed of inspiring speakers will then continue to deliver pro bono life stories which will be shared through the client voice, demonstrating the life changing impact of pro bono work. .
Speakers Confirmed so far are as follows: -

- The Advocate General for Scotland, Catherine Smith KC
- Emma Boffey, Advocate, Axiom Advocates
- Samantha Hillas KC, Barrister, St John's Buildings and Pro Bono KC of the Year at the Advocate Pro Bono Awards 2024.
- Alice Giuliato, Head of Services – Refugee & Migrant Forum of Essex and London (RAMFEL)
- Lowri Rutter, Associate, Simmons & Simmons LLP, together with a pro bono client
- Pamela Grant, Supervising Solicitor and Clinic Manager – BPP University, Family Law Clinic
The event will be jointly chaired from London by Toby Brown, Chair of the UK Pro Bono Week organising committee and from Edinburgh by Neil Mackenzie KC, Convenor of the Free Legal Services Unit and Keeper of the Library.
A networking reception in the Laigh Hall will follow the panel with a chance to have some refreshments and canapes in hope for attendees to meet each other from across the legal and access to justice sectors, sharing an interest in pro bono work.
